Coxsbazar Civil Society and NGO Leaders Urged for Separate Fund for Environmental Recovery and Local NGOs

July 2nd 2018, Cox’s Bazar. Today a group of civil society and NGO leaders representing Cox’s Bazar CSO NGO Forum (CCNF) have meet with Mr Antoine Gutteres, UN Secretary General and Dr Tim Yong Kim, President World Bank group in Hotel Saymen in Cox’s Bazar. The group was leaded by Mr Abu Morshed Chowdhury Co Chair CCNF, handed over a memorandum to the dignitaries where they have demanded separate fund for environment recovery and local NGOs.
Others team members of group are, Ms. Khaleda Begum of YPSA, Mr Moqbul Ahmed of COAST, Mr Bimal Chandra Dey Sarker of Mukti, Mr. Didarul Alam Rahsed of Nongar, Mr. Ajit Nandi of BRAC, Mr Shamsul Huda of SARPV, Mr. Abul Kahsem of HELP, Mr Ziaur Rahman of SHED, and Mr Sayed Tarikul Islam of ACLAB. The written memorandum to Mr Anotonio Guterres also copied to other visiting dignitaries namely Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President World Bank, Mr. Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund.
In the memorandum the group stated six points, which are (i) they appreciated the cooperation they have from all UN agencies and INGOs with the leadership of Bangladesh government in respect of Rohingya response. (ii) They urged for full implementation of Grand Bargain commitment which envisages localization and “whole of society approach with peaceful co- existence” even which is necessary in this dwindling aid situation. (iii) There should be full aid transparency especially for public scrutiny in respect of management, input and operation cost. (iv) An Environment Recovery fund should be initiated with a portion of aid money and with a core fund. (v) A separate fund for local NGOs/ CSOs for their easy access while they have difficulties with UN and INGOs. And finally (vi) UN must bring the Myanmar junta for Accountability in International Criminal Court and initiate a permanent accountability mechanism to stop such ethnic cleansing and genocides in future.
